Searching for the perfect kitten guide book...

Having been recently gifted a wild kitten who acts like she was raised by rats, I decided it might be helpful to read a book on cat behaviour as a guideline.

I work at a library, so had the chance when shelving books in the 700's, to flick through a few books on the subject of raising kittens.

WELL.

First chapter is on the kitten's first visit to the vet.

Next ten chapters are detailed descriptions on all possible diseases, infections, and vet bills you might suffer. Yay.

Useless, discouraging book.

Anyway... found a better book in the humour section: "The Unadulterated Cat" written by Terry Pratchett and illustrated by Gray Jolliffe.

Finally-! A book that explains cats as they are. Everything in it just made so much sense.

However, I would still like to know why cats start cleaning themselves when embarrassed or just at random in general? I have a theory for the latter - that licking themselves is their equivalent of smoking. They do it because they just don't know what the hell else to do.

  1. Hi,

I spotted on your blog that you have a copy of Brown Mouse by Frank Jennens. Would you ever consider selling it? I have loved this book since my late grandma bought it for me, but my mum gave it away while I was at Uni. I've spent the past 15 years searching for it. Meanwhile my gran has sadly passed away.

    My email is nicandrobsherratt@tiscali.co.uk

    Thanks for considering my email.

    1. Hi, I'm so sorry - I haven't looked at this blog in years. Are you still looking for a copy of that book? I tried to remember if I had it and it does sound familiar for some reason. Where abouts in my blog did I mention it?
